Alfresco : Strawberry Sangria

Since the summer season is just two weeks away, I added a new element on this blog of mine called "Al Fresco" - a collection of summer food and beverage recipes which hubby and I enjoyed either in the backyard, on a picnic or at the trailer by the lake.

While Jayvee worked on the garden last Victoria Day weekend, I made this refreshing and delicious Strawberry Sangria.It was a perfect aperitif for this very tired "gardener"!

Ingredients {Good for 2-3}:
1/2 bottle of chilled red wine {for this recipe I used my new favorite South African Beach House red wine - blend of shiraz, mourvèdre and a touch of viognier}
2 cups of cold Fresca
Juice of 1/2 lemon {cut the other half crosswise for garnishing}
Juice of 1 lime
1/2 cup of lightly mashed ripe strawberries
Splash of orange juice or pineapple juice

Preparation:
Pour wine into a pitcher. Add all ingredients except for Fresca. Chill for 2 hours to allow the flavors to blend {6-24 hours if you have time}. Add Fresca just before serving. Add ice and garnish with lemon and lime.

Cheers!

  1. That looks so delicious. I've never made sangria but might have to try it this weekend. Looking forward to your summer series!
