Change of Colors at Birdsong

The summer flowers have withered and the sudden drop in temperature magically turned the green leaves into fiery red, blazing orange and bright yellow! Fall makes everything beautiful and enchanting. Even at our home sweet home. Come and see for yourself....

Most of the farmers in the area were done harvesting heir crops. The golden field makes a great canvas for the beautiful fall colours. Our once vibrant green veggie garden and backyard turned into an enchanted fall yard.

Its that time of year when we pause and find time to watch the turning of the leaves, After all, Fall/Autumn is the year's last smile!

DIY Project : Birdsong Spring Wreath

It was a busy weekend for me and my hubby {cleaning and preparing the chicken coop for new chickens} but I finally managed to "conjure" a simple spring wreath that I've been planning in my head for sometime now. Before I decided to make my own, I was drooling at beautiful spring wreaths we saw at HomeGoods and Hobby Lobby the last last time we were in the US but I can't justify paying more than 50 dollars for something that I can probably assemble.

Supplies:

The bare twig wreath was stored in the attic since we moved {I finally found a use for it!}. Embellishments such as burlap and clip on birds were borrowed from our last year's Christmas tree decorations. Hubby got the empty nest from the Japanese maple tree in our front yard that he trimmed last weekend. The only thing I bought is the artificial flowers and greeneries {currently buy one get one free} at Michael's.

Easy Peasy How to:

1. The floral stems came in bunches. Clip them apart using wire cutter.

2. Insert stems on both sides on the wreath creating a bunch of flowers and greeneries on both side. Make sure there is 4 inches between the two bunches to place the ribbon

Note: I tried to get Muning {our kitty} out of my working table several times but she insisted on watching me while I work like she always does so I just let her be!

3. Make a bow out of burlap ribbon.
4. Using a glue gun, attached the bow on the wreath {in between the bunches of flowers and greeneries}.

5. Using a glue gun, embellish the middle of the bow with bird's nest and faux egg.
6. Clip on the artificial bird.

And voila! For less than 15 bucks, here's my spring wreath perfect for our home called Birdsong!

We are so ready for spring! Aren't we all?

Postscript: I guess I am not that entertaining when I work because my audience fell asleep!

Our First Christmas at Birdsong {Home for Christmas}

Happy New Year everyone!

The "pixie dust" of the Christmas season is slowly dissipating as everyone tries to get back to the daily grind. I'm sure there are people out there like me who clings on to the Christmas spirit as long as I could. This year is no exception, in fact even more! Hubby and I spent our first Christmas in our new old house. This house, as some of you know was originally called The Rooster's Inn (a former vegan B&B and farm animals sanctuary). Now that this house is simply a home to hubby and I + Muning {A.K.A. Miming, the princess cat} + 15 hens + 2 Muscovy ducks + 1 chukar + 3 nosy chipmunks + 2 bullfrogs and their entire family and last but not the least ... countless birds of different kinds, we decided to rename our home THE BIRDSONG!

The snow came a week or two earlier so it was not a white Christmas this year yet the air smelled like Christmas nonetheless with all the pines on the grounds.

Keeping the spirit of Birdsong, we decorated the trees inside the house with things that are near and dear to our hearts - the creatures who complete our growing "family". Yes, even the nosy chipmunks are represented!

Its been our tradition to wrap gifts together while enjoying  a cup of hot chocolate.

This year at Birdsong was no exception. With Christmas carols playing, we wrapped and tied ribbons on simple gifts but this time Muning joined the fun {well, she tore papers and chased ribbon spools!}

On Christmas eve, we went to our new Parish to celebrate the most important part of  Christmas - "Today is born our Saviour, Christ our Lord. Come Let us adore Him"!

Its no secret that I love to cook. What day is more special to prepare food than Christmas? I also put out some of my "plato-platuhan" to go with the feast ....

It was a holly jolly Christmas morning when we opened our gifts in our jammies! Muning has more gifts than the two of us combined. BUT she ignored them all and still preferred her "tansan" {bottle cap}.

Meanwhile in the La Maison de Poulet, our beloved hens are treated with medley of  fresh cabbage, carrots, apples, celery, corn and barley.

As a write this post, fresh snow covered the grounds and the temperature dropped to -15. It is cold and windy but my heart is still full of joy and warmth brought by Christmas .... wherever we are, new or old home, big or small, far or near, Christmas is where our family is!

"May the spirit of Christmas be always in our hearts!"
